Mission Impossible: Fallout (2018)
Oh man, where do I start?
This movie was FUN!
“Mission: Impossible - Fallout”, the sixth in the series, is the most fun movie I’ve watched in years.
I have favorite movies, and ones that I’d watch over and over again, but none of them are so much fun to witness.
M:I6 brings an aging Ethan Hunt (Tom Cruise) - still willing to risk everything to save the world, but no longer agile and able to avoid every punch. Now, he falls off motorcycles, misses handholds, and falls off things that he used to stay attached to. He’s still physically immortal though, so no matter how many tumbles he took, he kept going.
Now, because this was a Cruise flick, there was an unnecessarily long scene of him running, but a dash of comedy from supporting actor Simon Pegg made it bearable.
The story was fast paced and always moving, constantly revealing more about Ethan Hunt and his team, their mission and his past, without ever feeling repetitive.
Unlike many films with more than five additions to their franchise, the “Mission: Impossible” theme was prominent and on display here in the sixth movie.
And speaking of well-done sounds: I have never seen a movie where gunshots were used so perfectly to climax a tense scene, making me jump more than once as I clung to the action from the edge of my leather-bound theater seat.
In fact, my only major critique of the film was the film itself: some up-close scenes of the characters felt like a standard-definition camera was used. In an era of Retina phone screens and consumer 4K TVs, a low-resolution scene is surprisingly jarring.
This movie definitely gets a stamp of approval from me, and I highly recommend that you take some time and a few spare dollars to go see this on the silver screen!
