Bohemian Rhapsody (2018)
During highschool and college, I’d heard “Bohemian Rhapsody” so many times that I was sick of it, which made me fairly apprehensive about seeing the movie with the same name.
What I can say was that I was very pleasantly surprised!
Remi Malek did an outstanding job playing Freddy Mercury (and I can’t imagine filming an entire movie with prosthetic teeth is easy), with an impressive consistency of playing with Mercury’s idiosyncrasies, both verbal and physical.
Bryan Singer (1999’s “X-Men”) directed this, and didn’t shy away from showing Mercury’s dealings with gay culture and coming to terms with his sexuality, and his unfortunate demise through drug-induced self-destruction and death by AIDs.
The soundtrack was entirely “Queen” songs, so as long as you already like their music, you’ll like tunes throughout.
My only complaint about the movie was that the film spanned decades, but the only way to gauge the passage of time was by the fact that people’s hair styles were changing.
I absolutely recommend this movie, so if you’re a fan of Queen’s music in any way, definitely go see it!
