Solo: A Starwars Story (2018)
mini review
“Solo” was good.
Not great, not amazing. Not blow-your-socks-off.
Just ‘good.’
Alden Ehrenreich made for an entertaining smuggler, but not the Han Solo that Harrison Ford cultivated during the original trilogy.
Disney/Lucas Arts kept up the good work of breath-taking scenery, but dropped the ball on the soundtrack, as they did in “Rogue One” two years ago.
They told a fine story that wasn’t bogged down by the ‘Force,’ but in such a way that you never feel like you’re progressing anywhere.
Han’s adventure and quippy dialog are fun, but there’s never a feeling of excitement or risk, since you know both he and Chewie have a guaranteed future.
Inevitably, Emilia Clarke’s character, Qi’ra, will make an appearance in another movie. Emilia carried her character well (as to be expected from the Queen of Dragons), but nothing she did ever felt worth tracking either, since the audience knows that Han will eventually hook up with Leia.
